Starting Over

I started to make the quilt for my bed it is a California King so it is a BIG quilt. I made my first block 24"x 24" in the wonky bento box.

Started my quilt

Then my husband gets home and is like "What is that???" Apparently he does not like the Wonky or as he call it Honky look. So I needed to start over in a more simple streamlined look.

one block

I also decided to get rid of the darker gray solid. I wanted it to be lighter without it being white. So I bought the lightest gray I could find. It is Kona Cotton in Ash.

in progress

I am alternating the blue and red and keeping the gray in the middle. I have a lot to do since a king size needs to be 104” x 93” or maybe larger. These blocks are so simple since they are large at 24" x 24" so I should get them done fast. I am thinking since my blocks are 24"x 24" I want to make 4 blocks across and 5 blocks down in rows so I would need 20 blocks for it to be: 96" x 120"

I gotta admit, I think I like the 2nd set of blocks better...but because it's showing off the AB prints more, which is nice because they aren't all small-scale prints! But I totally think you should make a pillow for your bed w/the wonky block... *evil laughs*

And now you can use the wonky one to make yourself a pillow! I like the simplicity of the new blocks. :)

I LOVE that wonky block so much! I do like the others, but not as much as the first one! I'd tell my husband to deal with it! Ha, just kidding. =)

Nice color combo...I like the second one too. Husbands can sometimes be right. Don't you hate that! :)

Both look great...

I can't wait to see the finished product! I have been wanting to make a king size quilt for our bed forever. Right now we just lay 4 different blankets of varying sizes on top.

I like the wonky also, but I'm sure the new quilt is going to be great!!

The great part about quilting is that there are so many rights and so few wrongs. My hubster has the same problem as yours which I like to refer to as the inability to see outside the box. If it's different, he always has doubts. It is much easier to just choose one of the other rights. That wonky one will make a great bag or a pillow as someone else suggested.

I'm in the process of piecing squares together for a queen-size quilt. This will be my first major attempt at machine quilting a larger piece. Wish me luck!

Too funny, I just completed a king size quilt in almost the exact same pattern as you're showing! Check it out on my blog, most recent post. I hate to say it, but I agree with your husband - the new blocks are way better and ditching the dark grey was a good choice.

Michelle - that's what I said - she should use the wonky block on the backside of the quilt so it would show when she turned it down! LOL!

I love that wonky Bento Box! I guess it might be a bit busy for a king sized quilt, but it's awesome none the less. I love your simple blocks too! I'm looking for a pattern to make a king sized quilt for my bed. I can't wait to see your finished!
