Market Bag's

I bought the Jane Market Bag pattern awhile ago since the bag is sooo cute! I finally got around to sewing one the last couple of days. I wanted one for myself and thought it would be perfect for my Spicing up the Kitchen partner. For some reason I had issues with the pattern, everything just went wrong for me and there was alot of un-picking but....now that I know how to make it it will be way easier.

Jane Market Bags

The pattern does ask you to make the straps 21" long and I wanted mine to be longer so it would fit on my shoulder better so I made my straps 26" long. Here is a picture I took so you can see the difference the longer straps make. I don't know if I would have been able to get the bag on my shoulder if I didn't make them longer, but I think the pattern is meant for you to hold the bag so it was me wanting them longer so it will go on my shoulder.

Market Bag longer straps

I also added in Decor Bond iron on interfacing so the bag would stand on it's own. I love mine alot it is sooo me with all my favorite colors and some cutesy things like the Far Far Away fabric. I also decided to make the front pocket a log cabin instead of just a plain piece of fabric to make it more personal. The pattern is so great you can add in things to make the bag more your own. I ended up cutting my straps the original size and sewed them and then decided to make them longer so I added in the green dot fabric to make them longer making my straps scrappy and I love it and think I will do it on purpose next time.

My Market Bag

This bag is for my SUTK partner and I hope she likes it! I looked up some of her favorite fabrics and I got some in here. I am also making a potholder and Erin & my tradition of our FQ apron. Hopefully I can get it all done this week.

Spicing up the Kitchen Swap RECIEVED!!!

I received my AMAZING package in the mail the other day and was totally surprised when I pulled everything out from Barb (quilting barbie) she totally gave me everything I wanted and more. She had not posted any pictures on flickr and actually fooled me with other pictures (here is her story) making it hard for me to figure out who my partner was.

I really wanted I Spy placemats for the girls as I have mentioned before and that is what she made.

She even personalized each placemat with each of the girls initial. Totally cute and awesome.

I Spy placemat for Gweniveve

Gwen carried her around all day thinking it was a quilt until I explained to her it was a placemat. She just loves it.

Along with the girls placemats she sent one for my husband and I all in green. Have I mentioned before that green is my favorite??? They look amazing on my table along with the 2 hotpads that she made. These are soooo me.

Barb really spoiled me with everything she sent. 5 little fabric magnets and also some fabric that I love.

Thanks so much Barb! This package really made my week. Even more so knowing how hard it is to sew when you are pregnant, so thanks again for all the amazing things. My kitchen is really spiced up now.

SUTK Swap all done

I completed my package for my partner the other day. It took me just about all day to baste, quilt and bind all 4 of the placemats and make the FQ apron, luckily I had finished the potholder so I didn't have to make that. I was determined to finish it though so I was on a roll.

These placemats are my favorite thing I have ever made and I just might cry alittle when I mail them out to my partner. There just might be these in my future but they do take a long time to make with all the scraps you need. The placemats are 18" x 14".

They are just so cheery and bright and I think the yellow print I used as the binding is one of my favorite things.

I did free motion quilting so that it would help all the seams to lay flat and it worked perfectly.

I made these potholder/hotpads. One was for my partner and the other went to Rachel the winner in the giveaway.

Then Erin and I decided it would be funny to make our partners a FQ Apron since they have become the trademark of the group.

Additionally - we're making another one that everyone in the swap has the chance to win. Everyone that sends their package out on time (deadline is March 1st) will be entered to win another FQ Apron.

The top picture is me with the apron I made for my partner and the bottom picture is Erin's.

oh yes. we did. an apron & a globe.

Here is the full package that I need to get into the mail to my partner. I can't wait to see what happens once she gets them.
