Bookshelf Quilt

I finished my Doll Quilt Swap for my secret partner awhile ago and forgot to post about it. I thought my partner might like this look for a quilt and I do have to saw making the book bindings were alot of fun to put things together for. I was inspired by this block.

Each shelf is something new and I hope my partner loves all the details and if my partner doesn't then atleast I had fun!

I think the clock just might be my favorite addition to this bookshelf.

Now I just need to figure out the other little things to send to my partner along with the quilt so it can get in the mail.

Starting WIP's

I started some WIP's over the last couple of days since I was in a mood. I shouldn't have since we are having my BIL and sister here tomorrow to help us work on the house for over a week and I needed to put away all the sewing since my BIL will be taking down the popcorn ceiling ( hallelujah!!!!) and getting the old light fixtures replaced and my sister and I will be painting the whole downstairs. It was hard to choose a color but I finally did and I know I am going to love it. It is Ralph Lauren Crested Butte. I will get pictures of it for you all next week. But on to the blocks....

I have been wanting to make a yellow/aqua quilt for awhile. I am really into those colors I painted the girls bathroom yellow and everything else is aqua and I love it. I grabbed all the yellow fabrics I have been collecting and pulled out the Kona solid in Azure to go with it.

After debating on what to do Gwen told me to make a triangles quilt and hey why not I have not ever made one so it would be great to step out of my comfort zone of my typical squares ( which don't get me wrong is my favorite).

I am going to try to have each block be a different arrangement of triangles aka flying geese blocks and hopefully I can keep that up.

Then today I was thinking about and stalking my partner in the Doll Quilt Swap and really wanted to get started on it. After thinking about it I ditched my original idea of books and decided a simpler quilt was more my mood and seemed to be more to the tastes of my partner. I know she loves Far Far Away so that is what I used for the base of my blocks and if she doesn't like them I know my daughters will love it. They are the ones that I bought the FFA for anyway.

I am going to place them off center and pair them with linen or a solid of yellow, orange or pink. I really need to lay them on each and decide what looks best.

Since it has been raining here in good ole Orange County the girls have taken to playing in the garage and staying in their jammies most of the day. They have been totally entertaining me with their singing and dancing.

I am very lucky to have girls that love to play together and love the new house. It allows me to feed my passion of sewing.

Doll Quilt Swap

I have been a total slacker lately and have not sewn forever. Well it turns out that I am expecting number 2 and was not prepared for the exhaustion that has set in. Everyone says every pregnancy is different and I know it is true but this exhaustion was a shock to me. Needless to say I didn't have it with my first, I expected the nauseousness, but was not prepared for the lead that has taken permanent residence in my body making me unable to do anything.

This is me apologizing to everyone out there for being late on sewing quilting bee blocks and everything else. I am SOOOOO not the late person and it is a pet peeve of mine so I am so sorry.

I did finish my Doll quilt for the Doll Quilt Swap 6 going on on flickr. Our partners are a secret and mine has not received hers yet in the mail so I can't tell you who it is, but this is what I made. I did all of my favorite things, embroidery, applique, and log cabins. Mushrooms were my inspiration, obviously.

I used Alexander Henry's Starling print for the center of each log cabin, my absolute favorite print.

I embroidered this little mushroom house because it reminded me of the smurfs (loved that show as a kid).

I made the back simple since most people hang their doll quilts on the wall and the front is so busy so it needed a simple back.

We were asked to take a picture of ourselves with the quilt that we receive from our secret partner and I did even though I don't like pictures of myself right now since I have braces, but oh well.

Received!

Here is a better picture of the quilt. It was made by Jennifer who's flickr name is sweetlibertygrace. Her craftsmanship is amazing on this quilt and I love it!

Here is the back of the quilt and the cute label that she made (I edited out our last names) along with some FQ's from the Minny Muu line which are totally gorgeous! Thanks again Jennifer.

More blocks.

This month is going to be crazy since I am in 3 Quilting Bee's for a total of 5 blocks to make! So I am trying to get them done as I get the fabrics so I don't have a big pile on my table starring at me, stressing me out! lol. I am a little nervous for one of the blocks this month. We are asked to make the spiderweb block that is so popular in Quilting Bee land, so I am trying to clear my to do list to work on that when I get the fabrics.

This block was sent out by Viv from the Cottage Quilting Bee and she was doing and Emily the Strange quilt. I added the polka dots on the outside of the block and the one around the Emily the strange picture. I love me some polka dots.

Viv's block - March

I decided to add a heart to the block after I heard Viv ask people to make a heart block if they did not have a picture. I did have a picture in my fabric scraps, but I still liked the idea of a heart so I tried out hand applique. I could not be happier with the turn-out, especially since it was my first time. It totally has a Nightmare Before Christmas feel to me.

Then the next block was sent out from Stephanie from the Pieced Together Quilting Bee. She sent us out an ABC block and wanted us to make a log cabin and if we wanted to embroider the ABC block we could. Well you know me, I love to embroider so I was up for the challenge. I added the white print with the green and pink circles, the green and pink plaid, and tiny bit of white to the block.

It turns out that I got the D block and that was a very funny coincidence. I used all 6 threads of the embroidery floss so that it would cover up the lines on the fabric, but you can still see some of the lines and I was super annoyed with that part, but I am happy with the end result.

Last, but not least, I joined a Doll Quilt swap over on Flickr. I am a little crazy, I know, but I can't help it, I love to sew.
