Wonky Strips Quilt

I woke up with a bee in my bonnet (hehe) the other day and I just could not work on any of the WIP's I have going, which at this point is crazy and so not like me I never have WIP's I like to start and finish a project before I start another one but not this time so far I have 4 WIP's going, until I started and finished this one.

Before naptime I had this much done:

A bee in my bonnet

Then by the end of the day I had finished it and felt way better that it was off my chest and out of my mind. I have big plans for this mini quilt. You will just have to wait and see.

I had alot of scraps left over from this WIP so I just used those to complete this quilt. I just love Kaite Jump Rope and Flea Market Fancy fabrics.

WIP - a quilt for me

I have been collecting all my favorite fabrics, Flea Market Fancy, Katie Jump Rope, Moon Dots and Tula Pink's Ladybugs so that I can make a quilt for me.

a quilt for me

Today I got into the mood and started cutting. I had to stop thinking of what I would do with the fabric and what design I wanted. So I just started cutting and this is what became of it. A 20" x 20" square of perfection. It just makes me giddy, truly it does.

a patchwork start

Looks like I will be making a bunch of these squares of the next little while and then I might sash them (depending on how many I can make with the fabric I have. I don't have alot of most of the prints just Fat Quarters) if I need the quit to be larger. This project makes me really excited! If anyone has any of these fabric lines and wants to trade or share let me know it is for a good cause and I am actually going to use it and not hoard it.

Sewing clothes with my Mom

When I went to visit my Mom I got her to teach me how to use a pattern for clothes. I wanted to learn how to since I never had and wanted to make Erin a shirt for her birthday and the girls clothes. So with my mom next to me and guiding me I made this skirt for me using elastic thread in my bobbin! It does the awesomest thing.....Shirring. Love the gathered look. One of the easiest things I have ever made.

Skirt with shirring

I knew I wanted to make the girls dresses with the shirring since they are my favorite dresses for the summer and they do look easy to make. I brought my prized Katie Jump Rope fabric to make them out of. It just took some adjusting on the sewing machine to get it to like the elastic thread in the bobbin, but once we figured that out it was so easy. I am going to make these dresses all the time now for my girls and for gifts.

Here are my girls in them. My Mom made the elastic headbands for them to match.

Sisters in their dresses

The straps are just two long pieces of fabric that we tied into bows. So simple.

I just love me some matching dresses for sisters! Now I can make them anytime.

I made Erin a shirt using McCall's pattern # M5787. I did # B the tank top with out the ruffle since Erin is not a ruffle girl.

I realized I forgot to take a picture of it. I also used Katie Jump Rope in the Green Bandana fabric since it is one of Erin's all time favorites. You can kind of see the shirt in my hand in this picture of my Mom & I.

Thanks Mom so much for showing me how to make these clothes! Now I feel good enough to do it all on my own.
